Appeal after vicious street attack

From the archive, first published Tuesday 31st Jul 2007.

TRAFFORD detectives are appealing for information after a 27-year-old man suffered serious facial and body injuries during a vicious street attack.

Police have revealed the incident happened on Upper Chorlton Road, near to its junction with Ollerton Avenue in Old Trafford, on July 23 at about 2.30am.

The victim was walking along the road with a friend when two men - who were white and in their early 20s - tried to start an argument with them.

The offenders then launched what is believed to be an entirely unprovoked assault on the 27-year-old, knocking him to the ground and kicking him several times before running off.

Det Con Chris Aunins of Stretford CID said: "This was a cowardly attack on two young men returning home after enjoying a night out in Manchester.

"They were subjected to a violent and sustained assault that left one seriously injured and in need of hospital treatment.

"Whoever is responsible for this assault has no regard for the welfare of their victims whatsoever and it is very important that they are identified and arrested as soon as possible."

The victim was treated in hospital and has since been discharged. Anyone with information is asked to contact Trafford CID on 0161 856 9168 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
